It can be difficult as a Civil Engineer finding the right steel reinforcement specification whcontractors on site will be happy with and is readily available. We summarised some of the most common reinforcement and rebar sizes along with their design properties

Reinforcement Size Diameter (mm) Cross-Sectional Area (mm²) Weight per Meter (kg/m) Yield Strength (MPa) Tensile Strength (MPa)
6 mm 6 28.3 0.222 400 - 600 500 - 700
8 mm 8 50.3 0.395 400 - 600 500 - 700
10 mm 10 78.5 0.617 400 - 600 500 - 700
12 mm 12 113.1 0.888 400 - 600 500 - 700
16 mm 16 201.1 1.578 400 - 600 500 - 700
20 mm 20 314.2 2.466 400 - 600 500 - 700
25 mm 25 490.9 3.853 400 - 600 500 - 700
32 mm 32 804.2 6.313 400 - 600 500 - 700
