Split a concrete volume into cement, sand and aggregate quantities. Enter the total volume and mix ratio for each pour or batch, & this concrete mix ratio calculator will find each material's quantity, plus the number of 50 kg cement bags to order. Nominal mixes proportion cement, sand and aggregate by volume, a simplified, long-standing alternative to a full designed mix for lower-strength or non-structural concrete. This calculator isn't a substitute for a designed mix on structural work. Use our Concrete Volume Calculator first if you need the total volume from pour dimensions.

Column A: pour or batch name. Column B: total concrete volume needed. Column C (optional): nominal mix ratio — 1:3:6, 1:2:4, 1:1.5:3 or 1:1:2; rows without a recognised value default to 1:2:4.

For each row: the mix ratio parts are summed (e.g. 1:2:4 sums to 7), and the total volume is split proportionally — cement volume = total volume × (1 ÷ parts sum), and similarly for sand and aggregate using their own ratio part. Cement bags needed is cement volume × 1,440 kg/m³ ÷ 50 kg, rounded up to a whole bag.
| Assumption | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Nominal mix ratios | 1:3:6 / 1:2:4 / 1:1.5:3 / 1:1:2 cement:sand:aggregate, by volume | Simplified, long-standing alternative to a full designed mix for lower-strength or non-structural concrete, published in IS 456 and equivalent regional guidance. Not a claim of compliance with any specific strength grade or code — confirm against a design mix for structural work. |
| Cement bag conversion | 1 × 50 kg bag ≈ 0.035 m³ | Based on a typical loose cement bulk density of ~1,440 kg/m³ — standard construction-materials reference figure. |

A simplified way of proportioning cement, sand and aggregate by volume (e.g. 1:2:4), rather than a lab-designed mix tailored to a specific strength. It's a long-standing convention for lower-strength or non-structural concrete.
A leaner mix (1:3:6) suits blinding and non-structural fill; 1:2:4 is a common general default; richer mixes (1:1.5:3, 1:1:2) suit higher-strength requirements. Always confirm against your project specification for structural work.
It's based on a typical loose bulk density for bagged cement — real density varies slightly by product and how settled the bag is, so treat it as an ordering estimate and round up.
No. Nominal mixes are an early-estimate simplification. Structural concrete should use a properly designed and tested mix specified by a qualified engineer.
Yes — click or drop an Excel (.xlsx/.xls) or CSV file onto the upload area. The first column should be an item name and the second the measurement for that row; extra columns this calculator uses are read too if present. The file is parsed entirely in your browser — it's never uploaded to our servers. Download the blank template first if you're not sure of the layout.
Yes — use the metric/imperial switch above the calculator. Values you've already entered convert automatically; nothing is lost switching back and forth.
